Telecom subscriber will now have to wait for their carrier access code (CAC) to be implemented.
Trai is planning to reanalyze the requirement for CAC in view of the recent decline in long distance telecom tariffs. CAC code facilitates the subscribers to choose their own service providers for STD & ISD services.
The chairman of Trai, Nripendra Misra said that the group would like to observe the market for six months and conduct a cost benefits analysis before coming on to the final conclusion & implementing the CAC code in India. This is due to the decline in long distance tariffs & carrier changes.
DOT, reduced the entry fee for National long distance (NLD) & international long distance (ILD) from Rs.100crore & Rs.25crore respectively to Rs.2.5crore in December. It also eliminated the condition of minimum rollout obligation for the license. The carrier charges also reduced to 65paise in February.
